Why Feeling Safe Is the Key to Personal Growth
Mar 16, 2026
Hey lovebug!
Before we get into today’s newsletter, a quick note: my 1:1 coaching is currently full.
If you’d like to join the waitlist for future coaching, you can add your name here.
When a spot becomes available, I’ll offer it to the waitlist first before opening it to the wider community or Instagram. My next opening will likely be within the next 3 months (if a current client doesn’t renew).
Joining the list doesn’t commit you to anything—it just saves your place if you’d like the option.
Now—onto today’s post… 🙂
Have you ever watched the Disney movie Dumbo?
My youngest sister was OBSESSED with the movie when I was growing up… so we watched it—a lot.
Quick synopsis of the movie Dumbo: Dumbo is a baby elephant with exceptionally large ears. He gets made fun of a lot for the way he was built. With the help of a tiny mouse friend, he learns that what he was ridiculed for is actually a gift. The mouse convinces Dumbo that if he holds a feather in his trunk, he can magically fly.
The thing that struck me even as a middle schooler watching this movie was the power of Dumbo’s brain to believe he could fly with the aid of a magic feather.
And that belief in the “magic” feather worked!
THE POWER OF BELIEF and the POWER OF SAFETY right there played in front of my eyes over and over again.
That’s what it was really about for Dumbo – he needed to believe he was safe before he could do something that felt risky.
And that’s what I do with my clients every week.
We are constantly coming back to this theme of feeling safe:
- Safe to receive
- Safe to let go
- Safe to be present
- Safe to be seen
- Safe to trust
- Safe to say no
That’s it. Again and again and again.
Obviously, I’m oversimplifying here to prove a point, but it is a clear and straightforward way to help yourself as well.
So if you’re feeling stuck in an area of your life, look at where you don’t feel safe.
That’s the place to do some work.
That’s where you can start to do the detangling so that you CAN feel safe.
No magic feather required. 😉
