The difference between self-sabotage and intuition
Aug 17, 2026Hi lovebug,
I’ve been talking to a lot of folks lately and there’s a question that they keep asking themselves:
Should I pivot?
That question is coming up around whether to pivot in so many different areas.
Should I separate from my husband?
Should I start a new vertical in my business?
Should I apply for a new position in my company?
Should I move to a new city?
And these are not small should-I-change-what-I-eat-for-breakfast-every-day questions.
These are should-I-alter-the-trajectory-of-my-life-path questions.
Here’s are the questions that immediately follow the should I pivot question:
- What if I’m wrong?
- What if I make a mistake?
- What if I end up hurting someone in the process?
- What if I make this change and then someone (or everyone) ends up mad at me?
- What if I’m self-sabotaging?
Let’s address that last question… What if I’m self-sabotaging?
Usually by the time you’re saying the words—should I pivot?—out loud, you’ve had an inkling that you’ve needed a change for some time.
Something feels wrong or tiring or dissatisfying or draining and you’re not able to ignore it any longer.
That's the intuitive side of your brain teaming up with the logical side of your brain to say, “We gotta do something different honey because this ain’t working.”
Self-sabotage is different.
In my experience, self-sabotage rarely involves action and more often involves inaction.
For example, let’s say you get the intuition that it’s time to move to Chicago.
You “randomly” get an email from a recruiter in Chicago asking you to interview for a position there.
Intuition is saying yes to the interview and trusting in a divine plan from there.
Self-sabotage is not even responding to the email.
Self-sabotage almost always involves being given an opportunity to EXPLORE something new (new job, new city, new partner, etc.) and not giving it a chance.
So, if you’re sitting there thinking, is this my intuition or is this self-sabotage? Look at the actions you’re taking versus the actions you’re not willing to take.
Intuition is being willing to see what’s around the next bend and trust that you’ll be okay no matter what happens.
Self-sabotage is feeling afraid and therefore cutting off a possibility before you even know what it has to offer.
Talking about pivots and new opportunities is one of my favorite topics in my psychic readings.
If you haven’t booked one yet, now is the perfect time to see what’s coming through for you for the fall.
Because yes, we’re weeks away from fall.
(what a weird and fast year)...
Until next time,
Rebecca*
