How to choose peace when you’re used to chaos

life coaching Aug 20, 2026

Hi lovebug,

When I work with a new Emotion Code® client, one of the first things we do is a memory inventory.

That basically looks like me asking to hear stories from childhood and then translating those stories into memory statements that we can then take the emotional charge out of with energy clearings.

One of the things I’ve noticed over time is that when clients grow up in an environment that feels chaotic, they can subconsciously recreate that environment as an adult.

That can look like marrying a partner who constantly triggers them or choosing job after job that doesn’t pay enough to create stability or even filling their schedule so full with work and appointments that there’s no room for rest and relaxation.

None of these clients are doing this on purpose, but when asked how they feel about the idea of living in a peaceful home, their mind can say, “That sounds amazing,” but their body will respond with fear or anxiety signals.

From an energy worker standpoint, my goal is to help the client by taking the emotional charge out of the memories where things felt chaotic. We do that with Emotion Code®.

From a coaching standpoint, we talk a lot about figuring out ways to choose peace and to choose themselves first.

But let me tell YOU, it can be tough to choose peace when you’re used to the excitement of chaos!

If you’re reading this and thinking, “Oh gosh. That’s me. I make my life crazier than it needs to be.”

It’s okay boo. Let me give you a few coaching tips on this topic.

  1. We’re not gonna shame and blame you at all through this process. I’m not gonna, and you’re not gonna. We’re going to be gentle as you start to ratchet down to a more peaceful life pace.
  2. We’re going to look at this as a process and a progression and not something that changes over night.
  3. We’re not going to expect perfection. We’re going to be light and breezy and gentle because that is a peaceful approach to change.
  4. Now. I want you to start living with an abundance mentality. I find that when people are mired in scarcity thinking, they have to eke out every minute from every task of every day, and good grief that’s a great way to overwhelm your schedule. If you have enough time, you can slow down and stretch things out a bit. Life slows when you keep telling yourself you have enough time.
  5. Next, I want you to start saying no—out loud—to the air. Just say it, “No.” Or “No thanks!” Or “I’m gonna pass this time.” Get your mouth used to saying no in one way or another.
  6. Now, start saying no when your body tells you to. Some signs that your body wants to say no: Tension. Tightness. Dread. Guilt. Fear. A sinking feeling. Panic. If you accidentally push past your body’s signal to say no, that’s okay. Make a note for next time.
  7. As you say no, notice that the world doesn’t fall apart around you. <<< this is an important step. Start adjusting to this idea that slowness and peace are a lovely way to live.
  8. Fill the time you just freed up with something that is for YOU. Too much free time too fast can be overwhelming. If you put a slot on the calendar that says, “Bubble bath, 7-8pm” and “Lunch in the sunshine with my book, 12-1pm” and “Watch Ted Lasso, 8:30-9:30pm” - your body doesn’t freak out from all the open space and rush to fill it with tasks or work or unexpected drama.
  9. Keep telling yourself that you’re safe. Keep telling your inner child that you're safe. Ask your partner, friends, siblings, parents to remind you that you are safe living a peaceful life.
  10. Continue repeating these steps until life slows down to a human pace. ♥️

If you’d like some help with the process, I’d love to help you coach you through it.

You can set up time to chat with me about it here.

Until next time lovebug,

Rebecca*
