Break your energetic patterns
Jul 14, 2025
Hello lovebug,
Have you ever been on an extended stay away from your home?
You’re in this new place for a few weeks and in that short amount of time, you notice that you almost become a different version of yourself?
- You're waking up earlier
- You’re working out
- You find it easier to do more meditation
- You’re not scrolling on Instagram as much
It’s like all of these habits that feel nearly impossible to change in your home environment are suddenly… easy (?) to change (?)... <<< right?
Why the heck does this happen?
From an energy standpoint, I think it’s because you’ve got a blank canvas to create new patterns when you’re out of town for a few weeks.
I see this when folks go on a retreat where they do yoga every day, they eat fresh foods, they walk more, they sleep deeply.
They get home DETERMINED to continue their new habits, but undoubtedly the new habits are too hard to stick with and the old (less desirable) habits return.
I think this is partly because our subconscious mind is conditioned to act a certain way in a known environment.
If your home environment is connected to scrolling first thing in the morning and watching Netflix for hours at night and never really going to the gym or taking walks or meditating, it can be tricky to insert those habits into that existing environment.
So what the heck do you do?
I believe it really helps to break your energetic patterns.
What does that look like?
Well, if you were to map the ways you move through your home, it probably would follow a similar pattern every day.
Think about your life from a bird’s eye view and see yourself walking around your home.
You wake up… go to the bathroom… go to the kitchen… make the coffee… go to the kids’ rooms… wake them up… go back to the kitchen… pour the coffee… lean on the counter… scroll Instagram…
That’s just the first few moments of an imaginary day, but you see what I mean.
You have your patterns. There’s an energetic flow that moves through your home - almost like a track that you ride along on.
If you want to start breaking that energetic pattern, if you want to move out of the subconscious (autopilot) mind and into the conscious (aware) mind, you need to do things differently.
You can do things in a different order: Go wake up the kids, then start the coffee, then go to the bathroom. Do it a different way every day so you need to pay attention to what you’re doing.
You can do things in a different way: Brush your teeth with your left hand, drive a new way to work, pack a different lunch. Again, bring your attention to the front of your mind so that you’re aware of what you’re doing.
You can rearrange your furniture: I love this one. You will feel the shifts in your home when you move things around and you will be forced to pay attention (at least until you get used to it and go on autopilot again).
The trick is to add the new habits IN with these changes. Rearrange your furniture with an added place to meditate. Do your morning routine in a different order and add a long walk in there. Pack a different lunch and make it healthier.
It may feel a little squirmy or uncomfy in your brain at first when you do this as you start to rewire yourself. (Many people dislike this feeling so much that they’d rather keep their old, miserable habits than deal with the discomfort of change. Remember that the squirmy feeling will go away in short order as you adjust.)
